Per Government guidance from Tuesday 5th January school will be open to critical worker and vulnerable children only

Phonics, Reading and Maths Schemes

In the Reception class, the children learn about number through the use of Numicon apparatus. Throughout KS1, a CPA approach is used for calculations (concrete-pictorial-abstract), where the children use a range of apparatus, then represent the apparatus using pictures, and finally represent and solve their calculation using a written method. In KS2, we use the Maths No Problem scheme, which is based on a Singaporean approach to teaching maths.

Across the school, we place a strong emphasis on discussion during maths lessons and children are encouraged to verbally explain their thinking.

We use a wide range of different reading schemes which have been ‘banded’ so that books with a similar ‘reading age’ are brought together in one box so that we can more easily match the right book to your child.

We have introduced Read Write Inc, a literacy scheme, to Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and any other children in the school who may need extra support. By the end of Year 2 children will be expected to be reading fluently and expressively and to be independent readers.
